Core Training for Dancers

Core training has been around for a few years but not enough people have taken advantage of what it has to offer. The equipment used is very easy to get and fairly inexpensive. Swiss ball, medicine ball, theraband, resistance tubing, and a bosu exercise ball. I have seen this type of training transform one of my daughters into a much better hockey player. My oldest daughter, a dancer, has just begun some of the exercises on her own. A perosonal trainer is the best way to be introduced to the exercises but can be very expensive. There are classes available but again can be expensive.

However, performing the exercises correctly is a must so you receive the full benefit of every exercise and more importantly, stay healthy by not getting injured performing the exercises wrong. Many so called “weight rooms” are actually discarding their selectorized equipment (machines) and replacing their rooms with the equipment listed above. All body strength begins with the core muscle groups. Without this area being strong, the posterior muscle groups are unable to perform at their best.
